Christian Student Union (CSU)
Christian Student Union — CSU — was a student faith group founded by my old church, Element Church in East Lansing, and led by the church. It was active in Macdonald Middle School and East Lansing Middle School, and in October 2022 I designed its identity.
The mark starts from Macdonald's own Trojan helmet. The helmet's ribbed crest is pulled out and bent into an arc that sweeps around a stacked, varsity-style C-S-U monogram. The side-by-side above shows where the arc comes from. The helmet itself shows up again in the center of the QR codes on the flyers.
The arc doubles as a label: on the Macdonald version it reads Macdonald Middle School, and on the general version it carries the name Christian Student Union. I also explored a few other directions — a round seal with a cross, an arc beside a stacked wordmark, and a horizontal lockup with an open book.
From there the identity went onto everything: full-page and quarter-page flyers for the before-school Bible study and prayer time and the after-school club, vinyl stickers and name tags, and tee shirts.
